A promising three-year-old gelding from New Zealand, combining early race success, proven bloodlines, and expert training under Group 1-winning horseman Stephen Gray.

In just five starts, First Gear has recorded a win, two placings, and over $20,000 in prizemoney, including turning down a recent six-figure offer from Australian interests. His strong early results, coupled with international buyer interest, reflect both his ability and the regard in which he is held.

Investors receive a pro-rata share of 80% of eligible race earnings, distributed quarterly.

🔹Trainer Profile: Stephen Gray and Copper Belt Lodge

Stephen Gray is a Group 1-winning racehorse trainer with a formidable international track record and more than three decades in the industry. After spending 24 years at the helm of one of Singapore’s most successful racing stables, Gray recently returned to his family’s Copper Belt Lodge in New Zealand to continue his training career.

As the last of the original license holders at Singapore’s iconic Kranji racecourse, Gray trained over 825 winners, including six local Group 1 victories. His career highlights include two Singapore Derby wins (2007, 2021), the Singapore Gold Cup (2016), the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (2021), and back-to-back Lion City Cup wins with Lim’s Cruiser in 2017 and 2018. His horses have competed on the world stage, with runners at Royal Ascot, in Hong Kong, and Dubai.

Gray’s Singapore operation peaked with 60 horses in work, and his longevity in Asia’s most competitive jurisdiction is a testament to both his training ability and business acumen.

Now based near Palmerston North, Stephen trains from Copper Belt Lodge, the private training centre he owns with his father, veteran horseman Kevin Gray. With access to top facilities and a revived domestic racing scene, Gray is committed to rebuilding a boutique, high-performance stable in New Zealand, bringing his international experience, deep horsemanship, and long-term vision back to where it all began.
